Austria’s Economy for Energy Transition

242 companies with appeal for climate protection to the future federal government

Austria’s coalition talks have already reached full speed. As many as 242 Austrian companies with a combined aggregate turnover of more than EUR 46 billion and over 235,000 employees demand one central project for the next term: climate protection.

Initiated by WWF and Global 2000, the 242 companies directed their urgent climate protection appeal to Sebastian Kurz (People’s Party, ÖVP) and Heinz-Christian Strache (Freedom Party, FPÖ), the leaders of their respective parties; W.E.B was among the companies supporting this appeal.

Both climate protection and the energy transition present tremendous opportunities to Austria’s economy by developing new markets and creating thousands of new jobs. Nevertheless, such success requires a future-oriented political framework.

Support from Austria’s political landscape is particularly needed in the following points:

  • mandatory overall strategy for energy and climate policies
  • expansion of clean electricity generated in Austria
  • action plan for clean mobility of persons and goods
  • measures for sustainable heat supply
  • new program for energy efficiency and energy conservation
  • optimization of the tax system in favor of the energy transition
