If you take a closer look at the greater region around Spannberg, it will soon become clear that this is an excellent location for a wind power plant. W.E.B discovered this potential a long time ago and laid the foundation for the development of Spannberg wind power by building three plants as early as 2005. After construction work on the wind farm expansion began in fall 2014, it took just over a year to complete four new plants with a total capacity of 12.3 MW in December 2015. On Saturday, 3 September 2016, W.E.B and the residents of Spannberg celebrated the opening of the wind farm.
W.E.B CEO Frank Dumeier thanked all the supporters for their trust and explained to the audience why such projects play such a vital role in the decentralized energy transition. The relevance of renewable energy sources was also pointed out by Spannberg’s Mayor Herbert Stipanitz. He underlined the many years of positive cooperation with W.E.B and was obviously very proud of the wind farm expansion. René Lobner, Member of the Lower Austrian State Parliament, drew attention to the importance of companies such as WEB Windenergie AG in Lower Austria and emphasized the pioneering role of the federal province in terms of environmental technology.
The wind farm expansion provides clean electricity for over 9,000 additional households, thereby saving 21,046 tons of CO2.
